About the Event

Please join us for a Chambersburg Civil War Seminars & Tours Lecture Series! Our next lecture will be: A Miracle of Execution: The Battle of Fishers Hill by Scott Patchan. Cost is $6 per person. Zoom Login details will be sent with your email registration confirmation. The talk will be recorded and sent to participants to view about a week after the live talk.

Synopsis

Scott will analyze the contemporary sources to reveal how the battle developed. This has long been clouded by post war accounts focused on competing claims of credit for Sheridan, Crook and R. B. Hayes.

Biography

Scott Patchan is a graduate of James Madison University in the heart of Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley where much of Hunter’s Campaign took place. He has written extensively on the 1864 Campaign in that region and is a leading authority on it. He works include Time Life’s Voice of the Civil War: Shenandoah 1864 Shenandoah Summer, The Battle of Piedmont and Hunters Raid on Staunton; Second Manassas: Longstreet’s Attack and the Struggle for Chinn Ridge; and The Last Battle of Winchester. Additionally, has written prolifically in historical magazines and journals for nearly thirty years, including writing six feature length essays for Blue and Gray Magazine on the Shenandoah and Second Bull Run campaigns.
